Often considered to be one of the most remote valleys of Jammu and Kashmir, Warwan, located in the block of the Marwah sub-division in Kishtwar, is a spectacle to behold when it is covered in floating snowflakes. However, the same snowfall leads to severe communication blackouts and hinders existing lines of contact for its residents.
With the roads blocked by snow during the winters, the people of Warwan remain cut off from the rest of the world for approximately six or seven months every year. The village has no mobile connectivity and the area stays disconnected from the outside world and day-to-day happenings with no means of establishing contact within or outside Warwan for help during any emergencies.

In an endeavour to bring together the people, Jio included the Warwan Valley in the Prakaram Project. Working on 10 km of headload sites through dense forests and routes with hard rock that is difficult for excavation and benching, Jio becomes the first operator to bring connectivity to the people of the valley, providing network connectivity to the people of seven villages in the Warwan and Marwaha areas of Kishtwar district in Jammu and Kashmir.
Overwhelmed by the access to a seamless mobile network for the first time, the residents of Warwan and its surrounding areas felt immense relief and expressed gratitude for the connectivity made available to them. Now they can also make the most of digital technologies to strengthen the economic and social fabric and lead connected lives.
With new opportunities for online education and remote jobs made available, Warwan is expected to enjoy a reduction in unemployment, improved access to public services and greater transparency of government initiatives in the valley.
