Expanding 4G network in 40+ towns in Kerala

April 26, 2022
Reliance Jio is gearing up to expand its 4G network in Kerala by about 15% in the new fiscal year. The initiative takes into consideration the rapidly increasing customer base that led to a stark rise in the demand for more 4G towers in tier 2 towns and remote villages. This expansion aims to strengthen Jio's 4G network and improve Mobile Broadband Service (eMBB) by providing high quality connectivity all across the state.

This 4G network expansion is expected to improve overall connectivity and facilitate the ease of online education for students and work from home opportunities for employees during the second and third waves of the pandemic to the remotest of villages in Kerala. Once the expansion is complete, residents of Kerala can enjoy uninterrupted connectivity from any smart device. Finally, they can explore remote educational or employment online opportunities that were not accessible to them until now.

Currently, team Jio is solely focused on enhancing its 4G network coverage in tribal hamlet areas to support new economic activities while providing relief agencies during natural disasters. During the pandemic, Jio has deployed over 30 towers in remote areas based on local requests.

Last year, team Jio deployed an additional 30 MHz spectrum and improved backhaul capacity in Kerala with the intention to cater to the growing demand and consumption of data in the post Covid-19 scenario that was marked by a stark rise in online education, work from home, and increased use of OTT platforms. Since most of Jio's towers are on fiber, expanding the fiber network is Jio’s first initiative to provide high-quality service consistently across the state.

Jio’s digital initiatives are not only limited to wireless broadband, but also offers buffer-free 1 Gbps internet speed broadband connectivity via JioFiber across 40 towns in Kerala that are capable of providing broadband services to over 5,00,000 homes. Team Jio is relentlessly working towards fulfilling its promise of creating a Digital Life in the remotest part of Kerala.
